When you are looking around for a photographer you will soon discover that there are a lot to select from, commissioning an inexperienced photographer could end up costing you money!
The guidelines below will hopefully help you to ask the right questions and make an informed choice of photographer.
Most of us know, that it is a legal requirement, under UK law, for anyone in business to take out Public Liability Insurance (PLI). However, don’t assume all photographers will comply! If you have doubts, ask for proof!
In addition to the compulsory PLI, it is wise to ensure that your chosen photographer, also has ‘Professional Indemnity Insurance’ (PLI). So, what is the difference between PLI and PLI? In, the event of a dispute regarding late or non-delivery etc by the photographer PLI provides some financial compensation.
A prime example would be if a client had booked expensive exhibition space was unable to reap the maximum benefits due to the photographer failing to deliver the images in time for the exhibition panels or brochures to be delivered.
In this instance, although it won’t undo any embarrassment you experienced at the time, at least you will be able to claim for the associated costs of mounting an unsuccessful exhibition and out-of-pocket expenses.
Regardless of what you pay for something, if you end up not being happy to use it, it was expensive!
